Summer 2016 Specialty Camps
If a camper is registered for Camp Big Sky’s day camp but would also like to attend one of the specialty camps on the same day, they may do so by registering and paying for both camps. Camp Big Sky staff will walk those campers to and from the camps (excluding swim lessons) located in the Big Sky Community Park.
Intermediate and Advanced Youth Golf Camp
We know that a lot of you have enjoyed our golf specialty programs in the past, and although this year we were unable to have the same camps as last year, Big Sky Resort and Tom Conway will be putting on a golf camp for our experienced golfing youth. The camp is a 2-day intensive, 4.5hrs each day and includes lunch. If you are looking to elevate your game to compete in the PGA Junior League, then this camp is for you.
Dates: June 20th and 21st
Where: Big Sky Resort Golf Course
Ages: 7-13 years old
Cost: $100 for both days
Hooked on the Gallatin Youth Fly Fishing Camp
Camp Big Sky has joined the Gallatin River Task Force for the Big Sky Youth Fly Fishing Camp. This camp will inspire a lifelong passion for fly fishing and river conservation. Local fly guides will teach essential fly fishing skills including knot tying, fly tying, casting, reading the water, fish handling etiquette and safe wading techniques. Gallatin River Task Force staff will emphasize river conservation by leading activities focused on etymology, native fish, species, catch and release principles, leave no trace ethics and trout habitat.
Dates: July 19th, 20th and 21st
Where: Big Sky Community Park
Ages: 4th and 5th grade 8:30am-12:30pm
Ages: 6th, 7th and 8th grade 1:30-5:30pm.
Cost: $75.00 plus $18.50 for Montana residents fishing license ages 12 and up
$35.00 for non Montana Residents fishing license 12 and up
*Ages 0-11 are not required to have fishing license in Montana
Hip Hop Dance and the Art of Choreography Camp
If your child loves to dance, they have another opportunity express themselves this summer at Dance Camp with Jennifer Waters. Children will learn the basics of hip hop dance and learn routines. They will also be directed on elements of creating their own work. There will be a final showing of works on Wednesday at 11:30am.
Dates: June 27, June 28th, and June 29th
Time: 10:00-11:30 am
Where: Big Sky Community Park
Ages: Entering 1st through 4th grade.
Cat poses, cow poses and downward dog, kids will love learning new yoga moves with yoga instructor Wendy Miller. Campers will learn to center themselves, gain flexibility and strength and have lots of fun!
Dates: Tuesdays and Thursday from July 5th- July 28th.
Where: Big Sky Community Park; Meet at Basketball Courts
Ages: Incoming Kindergarteners through 2nd grade 10:30-11:00 am
Ages: Third grade and up 11:15am-12:00 pm.
Cost: $40 for the session
Swimming is not only a great way to cool off on a hot summer day, it is a lifesaving skill! Even your youngest can start learning skills with our professional swim instructor and Iron Man Brad Lartigue. Brad has been teaching Big Sky youth how to swim for several years, he is adept at teaching to all levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Swim lessons will be three weeks long so campers can gain big strides in their swimming abilities over the summer.
Dates: Mondays and Tuesdays from July 11th – July 26th
Where: Whitewater Inn
Cost: $40 for a three week session, meeting twice a week. (6 lessons total)
Minnow (Water Exploration/Primary Skills): 10:00-10:30am
Intro to basic water skills – for non-experienced swimmers: helps participants feel comfortable in water and ultimately get them ready and able to swim 5 yards with support to without support. Success with fundamental skills is goal.
Goldfish (Stroke Readiness): 10:45-11:15am
This participant is already comfortable in the water and able to swim 5 yards without support; gives participants success with fundamental skills and arm stroke/breathing development.
Dolphin (Stroke Improvement): 11:30am-12:00pm
This participant is already comfortable swimming 15 yards on front and back; builds on the skills from Advanced Beginner through additional guided practice in deeper water and learning other swimming strokes such as backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke.
